Commercial Bankruptcy, Bankruptcy Related Litigation
Brian L. Shaw has performed services for Chapter 11 debtors; Chapter 7 and 11 trustees; creditors’ and noteholders’ committees; assignees; landlords; liquidating trustees, labor organizations; preference, fraudulent conveyance and Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA) defendants; receivers; and secured and unsecured creditors. Mr. Shaw has extensive litigation experience in bankruptcy and related matters and has participated in the liquidation and reorganization of many bankruptcy entities.
Among his more significant recent engagements, Mr. Shaw has represented M3CVP LLC and its affiliated entities in their purchase of The Clubhouse Restaurants out of bankruptcy, as well as in their acquisition of the metropolitan Chicago Nick’s Fishmarket Restaurants. Mr. Shaw has also represented Chicago Title Insurance Company in the United Homes bankruptcy cases; a former CFO and CEO of marchFirst in its bankruptcy case and debtors, Casa de Cambio Majapara S.A. de C.V., Salem Capital Group, Inc., MyDavinci.com, and LFG, LLC, the former Chicago brokerage house.
Mr. Shaw is a past Chair of the Chicago Bar Association’s Bankruptcy and Reorganization Section and sits on the board of directors of the American Bankruptcy Institute. In July 2004, Mr. Shaw also co-chaired the American Bankruptcy Institute’s inaugural Consumer Bankruptcy Conference and he previously served a three year term on the University of Illinois College of Law Recent Alumni Advisory Board from 1998-2000. Mr. Shaw is also a Contributing Editor for the American Bankruptcy Institute Journal.
Mr. Shaw is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois, Central District of Illinois, Eastern District of Wisconsin and Northern District of Indiana, the United States Courts of Appeal for the Seventh and Eighth Circuits and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Shaw is also admitted to the Federal Trial Bar for the Northern District of Illinois.
