A solid combination of law firm and real estate development experience gives David Shaw the ability to offer his clients practical, efficient and business-oriented representation. His real estate practice includes acquisitions, financing, leasing, planned developments, land use and zoning, and workouts for clients ranging from individuals to large business entities. His extensive experience includes:

• Land use entitlements, general documentation and financing for major residential, commercial, and mixed use developments
• Negotiation of shopping center leases for landlords and tenants
• Securing entitlements and resolving land use issues for a national pharmacy chain
• Real estate counsel to Debtors-in-Possession and Bankruptcy Trustees

David has represented numerous institutional and individual clients in projects ranging in scope from 2,000 acre mixed use developments, to small in-fill residential projects and single user commercial facilities.

Renowned for his land use and zoning experience, David co-authored an edition of the Handbook on Illinois Zoning and Land Use for the National Business Institute, a continuing legal education organization for professionals. He has been given an AV rating by Martindale Hubbell and was also selected a Leading Lawyer in Illinois by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company.

David is a member of the Chicago and Illinois State Bar Associations.

Prior to the founding of Shaw Gussis, David practiced with the law firm of Mayer, Brown and was Vice President and General Counsel to a national real estate developer.
